[Rant] Backward Society

Maybe I'm just being extra moody today, but I'm sad about how backward our society is.

The coffee shops using 1-2% milk as default, the fact that some places don't even carry whole milk, the fact that 99% of yogurts and cheese sticks are made with skim milk are just a little annoyance. I'm an educated adult. I can make an educated decision on what I should eat, and I can work around with most situations.

But today, I'm sad for my daughter.

I ran into a post about republican wanting to deregulate food standard for public school, and people were rambling about how their kids' school lunches are great with all the choices of whole wheat pizza, grilled cheese, nachos, skim milk, etc. The list of the food offered in school literally made me want to puke, and the people defending the food standard based on HCLF diet made me depressed.

My daughter is 3, currently staying at home with her dad. But every single daycares and preschools we looked serve goldfish, pretzels and fruit juice for their daily snacks. What's really sad is that those places are legally required to serve USDA approved diet in order to keep their ratings. In some places, you can't even send your kid with your own food. Even in the places they allow outside food, the menus are very restricted because of allergies.

Yesterday, I asked my daughter about her YMCA visit, and all she could talk about was the animal crackers she got.

I don't want to make a big deal about it, but my heart sinks every time I hear about these child care places giving garbage to my daughter.

Even besides keto, I don't understand how highly processed garbages like goldfish, pretzels, and myriads of other kids food are considered healthy.

Thankfully, more and more studies are coming out against HFLC diet models. My only hope is that more and more people will get educated about proper diet and we'll overthrow this faulty USDA recommendation one day.

(I don't restrict my daughter to keto diet. She has access to fresh fruits, whole milk, and starchy vegetables at home, and I put almost no restriction in social events and eating outs.)
