Throughout the summer of 2016 I was working for an employer that provided free (delicious, and looking back - carb-ridden) food. This, along with always being fairly overweight pushed me to 240 lbs at 5 feet and 11 inches, and probably 35% bodyfat. This was by the end of August 2016. Coming back to college after that summer, I decided to make a change. I had started lifting the year prior but I had never really done it seriously with a proper routine or any real goals. So I decided that I would gain some muscle for a couple months and then cut down. During September and October I ate ate a caloric maintenance, prioritizing protein. During this period I lost around 5 lbs but gained a lot of strength (and muscle), proving to myself that I could lose weight and gain muscle if I watched my calories properly and got enough protein while lifting regularly. Then one day in early November I looked at myself in the mirror and decided it was time to cut (hah!). I had tried losing weight before, but it had always been a pretty crappy process, always feeling starved, etc. Then someone recommended Keto to me and everything changed. I found this subreddit and did a ton of research online. I decided to eat at a 1000-1200 deficit (after factoring in all my lifting and cardio), while eating <20g of carbs most days and some days <30g and hitting >100g of protein, leaving the rest to be fat. Then the pounds started dropping rapidly. During this 6 week period from mod November to the end of December I lost 20-25 lbs and maintained most of my lifts. This is my first keto victory so I decided to share it. I'm currently at 206 lbs after increasing my calories by a bit in order to make some strength gains while dropping fat, and it's working out well! When I was on this subreddit 2 months ago I wanted to know anything I could about Keto or how people lost the weight they did, so feel free to ask my any questions :)
