I have a rare and poorly understood neuro disorder and have been focusing on the affects of my diet for years as I noted that eating triggered off seizures and huge heart rate increase and blood pressure decrease for me. I had stopped carbs other than low starch veg about a year ago and found I could sleep properly for the first time in five years. About 4 months ago I upped my fat from very low to moderate/high for the first time and suddenly found I could walk so much more, whilst I usually need a wheelchair. Although keto has never been advised for me by any specialist thus far, I am coming to accept that this diet is better than any medication I have tried for giving me back a chunk of my life- I'm not cured but I am improved. I have not been measuring carbs or protein and I had a whole tomato and whole capsicum on the weekend, followed by over 2 days of severe illness. It all clicked together this week that I need to try strict keto- maybe I will get an even better symptom improvement, I am very excited and joining the keto family for slightly different reasons than the typical. Just thought some people might be interested and wondered if anyone else used it for medical benefits other than weight loss.
