Hello my wonderful /r/keto family. :)
I began our way of eating in July 2016. At that time my doctor was casting around looking for ways to control my completely out of control blood numbers.
I was taking Lovaza, rosuvastatin, fenofibrate, and fenofibric acid to try to regulate LDL, HDL, and triglycerides, but my triglycerides were still north of 200, my HDL and LDL still totalled north of 300, and my doc was running out of options (I am Mr. Side Effects, especially with statins.)
After two months I had tests and saw him again. My numbers had shifted dramatically, for the better. He removed fenofibrate, but was cautious about removing more meds. Hey, I am doing this to be healthier, so I appreciate his caution.
Welp, I had another set of tests in January, and my blood numbers showed only slightly elevated bad cholesterol, perfect good cholesterol, and optimal triglycerides. We didn't talk about reducing my meds any more at that time.
Wednesday I went to get my fenofibric acid script refilled and the company that makes it has decided to do an Epipen price gouge move, so my co-pay went from $2 a script to $170 a script, because even multimillionaire executives need Christmas bonuses, amirite? :)
I called my doc. He's on vacation, but his nurse and I discussed my very good numbers, and we decided to pause all of my cholesterol meds. When he gets back in mid March I'll be testing again, but it looks like three more meds get to stop. :)
So, so far:
Began keto in July, 2016
Fenofibrate in late August
Glimepiride in October
Januvia in November
Metformin in January
Fenofibric acid, rosuvastatin, and Lovaza in February
Not too had for a seven month run, eh? And I am not stopping. For those of you for whom weight is just one of many reasons for adopting a ketogenic way of eating, there is SO MUCH HOPE. :) Keep calm and keto on, my beloved peeps. :)
