I wanted to say hello to this wonderful community. I've been lurking for months, and finally started my keto journey at the end of November. After years of slowly letting my weight creep higher, and failing at millions of attempts to control my weight gain, I decided to give keto a try. I've been reading things here and on the internet, trying recipes, trying to avoid the flu, trying to maintain my macros, and so on. I've always been too private of a person to share my story so publicly, but now that I'm seeing so many new people in the position I was in a couple months ago, and knowing how supportive and helpful the people in this sub have been for me, I feel I owe it to be as helpful as I possibly can to others. I let my weight creep up to 410 pounds. I was trying to control my calories for a while, and doing a little exercise, which got me down to about 385, but I quickly let myself creep back up to 399. I didn't want to cross back over to 400, which is when I decided to give keto a try.

MASSIVE success. I dropped a LOT of weight in the beginning. 22 pounds in the first week. I'm guessing that was mostly water weight. The pace slowed considerably since then, but I stuck with it through the holidays, and through my son's birthday, and today I surpassed 70 pounds lost. My current weight is 339 lbs. Right now, my goal weight is 220lbs, which I think is about 10-12% body fat for me - I may need to re-adjust once I get down around that weight.

I wasn't sure if I'd be able to do this, because I have such a sweet tooth. When I first started I was making whipped cream every day, with sweetener in it (and often putting it on top of cubes of sugar free jello). It was delicious and really helped me through the early days. After about a month or so, I stopped caring about sugar and bread as much, which has really made this so much easier.

To the new people, welcome to this wonderful way of eating, and please don't be overwhelmed by the mass of information when you first get into keto!
