Major motivation seeing this: http://ift.tt/2lhVdxa (I didn't start tracking weight daily in MFP until Dec, used my exercise journal beforehand)
I got on the scale this morning and was down to 202.2!!!! I was going to wait until I got under 200lb to share this but just can't wait! Keto has me so excited about the progress I'm making and I've gained so much motivation from reading posts here and general lurking that I wanted to share something that I hope might motivate someone else!
For a variety of reasons (less than 45 days left in my 30s! yikes!), I seriously started my getting back in shape journey in mid-October 2016 starting with a combination of exercise and diet to address my weight which peaked at 248lb. My diet for the first couple of months followed two principles: 1) just eat less idiot and 2) some of what I learned in 4 hour body and cutting out fast carbs and limiting slow carbs.
In January, I learned about Keto through this sub (linked via a post in Meal Prep Sunday). I did some research and found that it pretty closely mirrored what I was already trying to do but with more science! So I started giving it a try. Not too closely the first few weeks but the last two weeks I have been on a dedicated Keto focused diet for the most part. AND IT ROCKS!!!! So much good food! It fits very neatly into my life already and so one of the other things that has me excited is that I will be able to keep up eating this way long term.
My typical week has me eating Keto meals that I prep on Sunday for the week. Saturday is a cheat day so I go crazy! And then Sunday is a mini-fast with about 500-600 calories. It's been pretty effective at helping me avoid long plateaus in January.
What I've found immensely helpful, and might help someone else, is making meals ahead so I know I've always got something ready to go that helps me stay consistent and focus on my goals. There are so many great meal prep resources here on this sub, on keto food, and other sites. There are a ton of great recipes that make sense for making ahead.
I'm so psyched for this year! I'm focusing both on Keto and healthy eating as well as my fitness and plan to achieve some fitness goals I've always wanted to do: Half Marathon in June, summit Mt. Rainier in August, Triathlon and Spartan obstacle course race in September, 1 5K/month, 1 or more backpacking trips this spring/summer per month! 2017: best year ever!
Finally, I am so thankful for this sub! You all ROCK! I've spent a ton of time reading through the great posts on tips, victories, and even set backs and have learned so much, have been so motivated by you sharing your thoughts and successes and struggles! THANK YOU r/keto!!!!
