A month of Keto under my belt, 19lbs lighter and feeling great. Here are some tips and suggestions that might help you on this journey.
We're all different
Well duh. Did Joe or Jane who have the exact same stats as you lose 10lbs more than you? While comparing yourself to someone with very similar stats can be a good gauge of progress, don't get caught up in it. You're metabolism is different, you're going to eat different, you have a more stressful life, you don't exercise and the list can go on and on, so don't think something is wrong because you haven't lost the same amount of weight. We're all different.
Don't try too many things at once
My wife considers me an extremist. To prove her right, I started Keto, decided on a 1,200 calorie/day limit and threw in Intermittent Fasting for good measure. Don't be like me and start all 3 at once, give yourself a break in period until your body adjusts to no carbs, as some folks will have a much harder time than others. Ditto with a big caloric reduction. Don't restrict yourself too much in the beginning, I quickly bumped up to 1,500 as 1,200 was too harsh in the first couple of weeks but now 1,200 is a normal.
Find your comfort foods
For me it's Redi Whip and chicken broth. Redi Whip really curbs my sweet tooth and I used chicken broth in the beginning to help with headaches and fogginess, it worked wonders.
Bathroom help
Before Keto I would go #2, 2-3 times a day, yeah I was a pig. Now I struggle to go once a day. Mostly from eating way less food but also from not getting enough fiber to keep things moving. To help that, I try to eat a salad everyday and some kind of fibrous veggie like broccoli, asparagus, green beans etc. Pre-keto, my morning cup of coffee would keep me regular but sadly no longer. 2-3 tbsp of MCT coconut oil in it really gets things moving though, I love that stuff. Fair warning with MCT oil, find your happy place, too much will keep you home from work, start small and see what your bowels can tolerate. I also take psyllium from time to time.
Live your life
If you're constantly obsessing like me, here's a tip, just live your life. After 2 weeks it started to bother me how much I was obsessing about this Keto/weight loss thing. It was taking up way too much of my thoughts and I found my self constantly thinking about something Keto or weight loss related at all hours of the day and night. I think this happens a lot more to people on Keto because this shit works and after a month in I don't feel like I'm doing a diet, I'm just living. The obsessiveness is still there for sure but I've learned to tame the wild beast.
KCKO!
