So I've recently started keto (thanks to everyone on this sub for all the info and motivation), and I've watched Fathead and some of the other "keto/lchf docs." Tonight I went grocery shopping, and I felt like I was "in" one of those docs, just observing people.
I want to be careful here and not offend anyone, as it wasn't judgmental, purely observational. The almond flour was on the baking aisle, of course, and as I was getting it, I noticed a rather obese couple throwing a big bag of regular wheat flour in their cart. In the freezer section as I was getting some frozen meatballs (3 net g per 6), there was very heavy mother and teenage daughter getting frozen pizzas. I glanced down the cereal aisle as I walked by, and there wasn't a slim person to be seen.
It really hit home with me that everything I've read and watched in the docs was playing out in real time right in front of me. It totally changed my perception of the grocery store and just how processed 90% of the food there is.
This post is not fat-shaming or judging others, just anecdotal personal experience congruent with the information I've learned as I've been educating myself on keto.
As I was checking out, I watched my package of chicken thighs, bacon, avocados, cheeses, steaks, etc., riding down the conveyor belt and realized that I could clearly identify every ingredient in everything I was buying, and it was very motivating.
As soon as I got home I made a fathead pizza with ground beef and pepperoni. When I took it out of the oven, I was ready to eat the whole thing and threw three slices on my plate (knowing I should probably just have two, but whatever, right?). After two slices, which were fantastic, I just didn't want any more to eat. I guarantee that if I had ordered a medium pizza for delivery I would have eaten the whole thing, and it would not have been as good.
