A real question someone asked me the other day.

I feel bad because I really do not want to be a food evangelist. I do my best to divert conversation when it gets on the subject of dieting in general, but people do ask me since I have visibly lost weight, and I usually tell them I'm doing keto and it's a very-low-carb-diet. When pressed, I point out that it's not a fad diet, it's a metabolic process and it helps me stay full so I can eat less easier.

This one couple I see socially are trying to work out and eat healthier. The other day the husband was like, "I tried eating low carb, but even with the fruit in my morning smoothie it kills my carbs for the day!"

I wanted to facepalm for him. He is obviously well-intentioned, but...no, dude. I know you think that a smoothie in the morning is "healthy", just like we all used to think oatmeal was healthy and low fat milk was healthy. I felt so bad having to look at him and be like, ".......yeah, that's not low carb."

I want to be helpful but I don't want to be overbearing when people approach me. His choices are his choices, it's not like he doesn't have the internet. But my god, it's just so sad. People want to make good choices. They are willing to jump on the bandwagon. But people are so misguided that it becomes a barrier to their success. It's such a bummer.
